About insiders

The most important thing when you visit a city is having a good contact person in it. The kind of person that has the insider information, the one that makes you feel as a citizen, not as a tourist. At Grand Hotel Central we consider our guests as temporary inhabitants and worthy to have a great advisor next to them. Therefore our team of bloggers would like to share with you all the places you should visit, the trends you must follow, the events you should not miss and the secret tips you need to know. Here you have all the info you need to be an insider. Welcome to your Barcelona!

Escribà

In the world of chocolate anything is possible thanks to the Pastry Escribà! With over 100 years of experience and a long history, this bakery is always surprising … just have to see their website! What a wonder! Custom cakes, original pastries, candy rings “Candy Glam Rings”, explosives cakes… Also, their windows are always must. We recommend you visit the bakery that is situated at La Rambla, with beautiful modernist decor from 1902, although its operations center is located in the Gran Vía. In the first floor you can find the first pastry showroom for inspiration and to order your personal cake.

Footing Barcelona

The Footing Barcelona website is an interesting initiative created by a couple of young sports enthusiasts. The website proposes jogging routes and offers guided jogging tours of the city. There is also the possibility of discovering some of the districts with a little more personality, and routes requiring different levels of fitness have been planned through the Horta, Gràcia and Poble Sec-Montjuïc districts. For those who would like to combine jogging with a little sightseeing.

Francisco Godia Foundation

The Francisco Godia Foundation is one of the largest private collections in Spain. It was set up in 1999 by Liliana Godia to honour the memory of her father, Francisco Godia, a brilliant businessman, enthusiast and art lover. The Foundation is located at Casa Garriga Nogués built by the architect Enric Sagnier and has approximately 1,500 pieces on display including paintings, sculpture, glasswork and pottery. Among the artists are Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso and Antoni Tàpies. We definitely recommend it!

Santagloria

An urban and avant-garde space where they make breads, cakes and pastries of all kinds. Santagloria opened its first store in Barcelona in 2011 and soon became a landmark of the city. Perhaps the key is that all their products are of good quality and ecological. They also offer customized workshops (cupcakes decorated and customized cookies…) where they teach all the secrets of their funniest proposals. Do not hesitate and join!

Petits Encants

The Vintage fashion has experienced a boom and Barcelona is not far behind. Today we recommend a small antique shop located in the Born, Petits Encants. Antiques objects of all kinds (clocks, tables, frames …) and small curiosities to surprise with a nice gift. If you have old objects in your house and you don’t know what to do, you can also sell them. Do not hesitate and take a look at this lovely second hand shop (C / Sant Pere Basses 24).

You can also visit their Flickr.

Sant Jordi

And finally came one of the most expected days… Sant Jordi! Every year, on 23rd April, roses and books, romance and read. The legend, which you probably have already heard, is that Saint Jordi slew a dragon to save a princess – and then gave her a red rose. So the tradition is to give books for men and roses for women. Today you will find many stalls at Las Ramblas selling roses and books…

St Jordi’s Day is a good day for telling someone you love him. Also you can tell a lot of funny and sweet things to your friends! If you want to send a message, click here.

Have a nice St Jordi’s Day!
